Heidelberger Schloß
1196 was the first mention of Heidelberg in a document. In 1693 the town and castel were distroyed by the Sun King, Louis XIV of France during the Palatinate Wars of Succession. In 1742, the castle was being rebuilt by Prince Elector Carl Theodore. It is the biggest ruin in Europe and has the largest wine Vat in the entire world stored in it! The castle in the background of the Old Bridge was built from 1786-1788 also by Prince Elector Carl Theodore. This bridge was the first made of stone. The previous ones were made of wood and were repeatedly destroyed by floods. The river is the Neckar River. Hmm......didn't know that, we just think every river is the the River Rhein....lol! Oh, and when we were inside of the castle, Brittney said, "I wish I could go back in time and make this place beautiful again!"
